UVA Facilities Management’s 2019 Safety Summit highlighted the Virginia Building Excellence in Safety, Health and Training (BEST) program, designed to encourage and recognize contractors who establish safety and health management systems to benefit construction workers.

Occupational Health & Safety hosted the event, attended by 110 people representing 35 different companies, including UVA staff from Facilities Management and Environmental Health & Safety, as well as Ray Davenport, commissioner of the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry.

The BEST program – a partnership between the Virginia Occupational Safety and Health program and the Associated General Contractors of Virginia – aims to improve best practices, compliance efforts and accident prevention on construction worksites through recognizing the outstanding efforts of exemplary construction employers.

The event also featured Associate Director for Environmental Compliance Kristin Carter and Environmental Compliance Specialist Brittany Olenslager discussing permit requirements on construction sites.
