How to buy/receive surplus property

University-owned, unneeded surplus property, including furniture and miscellaneous items, is available for purchase by the general public on public sale dates.

Customers interested in receiving items for UVA business use only may view items in person during the store’s weekly business hours (noted below) or browse inventory online and reserve items by emailing reuse@virginia.edu.

Temporary procedures due to COVID-19 restrictions

Store hours for public, UVA business use and non-profit use customers:

  • Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday — 8 a.m.-2 p.m. by appointment only
  • Monday and Friday — Closed

In order to abide by social distancing guidelines, the UVA ReUSE Store will be open to only three customers at a time in 30-minute increments during the above noted store hours.

Appointments are required – please email reuse@virginia.edu with a requested date and three possible times (i.e., 8-8:30 a.m., 9:30-10 a.m. or 1-1:30 p.m.), and a staff member will confirm your appointment once it has been approved. In order to maintain a timely schedule, appointment times will be strictly enforced.

The ReUSE Store will only accept debit/credit card payments at this time (no cash) and all items must be removed by 2 p.m. on the day of sale.

Face coverings are required to be worn by all customers while inside the store.

Public sale dates are the only opportunities for customers to purchase surplus items for personal use (this includes both members of the public and those employed at UVA).

Items are priced individually, and prices are non-negotiable. Items are available first come, first serve (no auctioning). All items must be picked up by 3 p.m. the day of the sale or they will be placed back into inventory.

Assistance loading items into vehicles will be provided, however securing or strapping items is strictly the customer's responsibility. ReUSE Store staff does not disassemble, deliver or install items.

No guarantees on any items, everything is purchased as is. All sales are final, no refunds or exchanges. Payment options are cash, credit or debit, no checks.

UVA business use information

Office furniture and some general surplus items contained at the UVA ReUSE Store are generally free when requested for UVA business use (not for personal use), although a fee is charged for delivery and certain items are auctioned.

Non-profit use information

University-owned surplus can be donated to approved 501c3 non-profit organizations. If your non-profit would like to receive donations, please send a copy of your approved 501c3 IRS determination letter to reuse@virginia.edu and a ReUSE Store staff member will contact you.
