Electrical Safety FAQs

Q: The statement “work performed on any energized electrical system requires an approved Energized Electrical Work Permit” seems to be very clear with no exceptions, aren’t there cases where NFPA 70E does have exemptions for testing, troubleshooting and voltage measuring, etc?

A: There are some specific exemptions that are listed in NFPA 70E 130.2, and reflected in the Facilities Management Electrical Safety Program. These exemptions shall be allowed within this pledge, as long as all proper work practices and PPE are used.

The following line may be added to the statement:

“Except for specific exemptions to the above listed in NFPA 70E 130.2.”
