Laura Duckworth joined the University of Virginia in 2014 as the Occupational Health and Safety Director for Facilities Management. Laura has over 20 years of experience building, refurbishing and overseeing programs that support successful business operations. Her experience combines relationship building, strategic planning, budgeting, problem solving and being an effective change-agent. Under Laura’s leadership, Facilities Management has shown a significant reduction in the severity of workplace injuries and an increase in employee involvement. Prior to UVA, she was the Director of Occupational Health and Safety at George Mason University, has worked for GlaxoSmithKline, and was employed by the North Carolina Department of Labor, OSH Division, where she held multiple positions including a commissioner appointed position as interim Executive Director of the Ergonomics Center of NC.
Laura has served as Advisory Board Chair, Ergonomics Center of NC; Secretary, American Society of Safety Engineers-Tidewater; President, Carolinas Biosafety Association; and co-leader of the Facilities Management Community of Practice for the College Safety Health and Environmental Management Association. Laura earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from George Mason University and a master’s degree from Old Dominion University.
Trey is Assistant Director for Occupational Safety and Health at Facilities Management. Trey has over 15 years of experience working with organizations to manage their workplace risk and exposure. Trey’s specialty is management of organizational change through leadership, risk assessment, mitigation, and relationship building, in addition to applying technical skills in all facets of occupational health and safety. Areas of technical expertise include fall protection, root cause analysis, ISO 45001/OSHA, confined space entry, control of hazardous energy, and many others. Trey believes in building organizational culture through collaboration and soliciting input from all levels of an organization.
Prior to UVA, Trey was the owner of Pinnacle Safety Solutions, a DC-based safety consulting firm where he worked with industries across the country to train employees and implement safety programs and conduct workplace inspections. Trey has also worked for Builders Mutual Insurance Company, Lockheed Martin, and George Mason University holding a variety of safety and risk management positions. In addition, Trey spent 10 years as a volunteer fire officer in a busy fire station located just outside of Washington, DC.
Trey is Co-Leader of the Campus Safety, Health, and Environmental Management Association Community of Practice in Facilities Management and is a member of many industry groups such as ASSP and NFPA. Trey has a Masters Degree in Occupational Safety Management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and is also a Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
Occupational Programs Supervisor
Linda Resco is the Occupational Programs Supervisor. She joined the team in 2015 after relocating to Charlottesville from Raleigh, North Carolina. Originally from New Jersey, she comes to us with a background in commercial interior design, facilities management, project and office administration, and event coordination. Linda most recently served at the non-profit, Foundation of Hope for Research and Treatment of Mental Illness in Raleigh, NC, where she assisted in office administration, event coordination and research grants. During her career, Linda had the opportunity to gain experience in facilities management working for the Guardian Life Insurance Company of America in New York City as a Facilities Coordinator. In addition to this, Linda was an interior designer and project coordinator at commercial interior design firms in Upper Montclair and Mountainside, New Jersey where she designed commercial space and consulted on projects for clients such as Merck & Co, CIGNA Healthcare and AstraZeneca. Linda holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interior Design.
Bobby Glenn joined the University of Virginia in 2018 as a Program Manager in Facilities Management Occupational Health and Safety. Bobby has extensive experience in project management, root-cause analysis, ergonomics, safety and environmental compliance, process safety management, and equipment design. He flourishes in team environments and demonstrates strength in relationship building, engineering-design, problem-solving, employee morale and engagement. Bobby has a hands-on style that makes him highly approachable and an effective agent for change and program adaptation, innovation, and implementation.
Prior to UVA, he was the NE Regional EH&S Manager for Schnitzer Steel Industries, covering multiple states in New England. His career has spanned the private and public sector, to include global recycling, sustainability, naval support, risk-mitigation, and manufacturing.
Bobby has served on the board for the Recycling Association of North Carolina, the Virginia Metal Recyclers Association, VRA, American Society of Safety Engineers, ISRI, and is a member of Rotary International. Bobby received his education here in Virginia at Old Dominion University.
Sarah Elizabeth Burnett (Liz)
Health and Safety Coordinator
Liz Burnett joined UVA Facilities Management Occupational Health and Safety in September 2016 as administrative support. She is a Virginia native and lifelong Wahoo, with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia. Named as Time’s Person of the Year in 2006, Liz has a passion for problem solving and community service. She spends her free time volunteering with local causes, particularly fundraising for cancer research. Professionally, she also has experience in the healthcare, nonprofit, and retail industries. As the Health and Safety Coordinator, Liz oversees the safety shoe distribution program, processes accident reports, and helps organize events, among many other duties.
Health and Safety Compliance Specialist
Narges Sinaki is the Health and Safety Technician for UVA Facilities Management. Her technical experience includes working for a leading Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) company in Iran (TAM Iran Khodro Co.) for seven years in the Department of Health, Safety, and Environment where she served as an Environmental Expert. Her responsibilities included establishment, documentation, implementation and maintenance of Environmental Management System. She also played a role as an internal Lead Auditor for Quality Management System, and Occupation Health and Safety Assessment Series.
Before joining TAM Iran Khodro Co., she conducted third party audits for two years on behalf of Moody International Certification (United Kingdom base register) as an IRCA-certified ISO 14001 & ISO 9001 Lead Auditor and an OHSAS 18001 Lead Auditor. Narges began her career in 2001 with a private sector business company with the scope of establishing Management Systems. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering in 2000 and Master of Science degree in Environmental Economics in 2007. Her work experience also includes the Retail and Education Industries (Belk and Literacy Volunteers of Charlottesville Albemarle, LVCA).
Occupational Health and Safety Technician
Bonnie Hockins joined the University of Virginia in December 2018 as the FM Occupational Health and Safety Technician. Bonnie’s experience includes root cause and data analysis, safety compliance, strategic planning, promoting positive change, employee morale and motivating a team environment.
Prior to UVA she worked in management and safety for UPS, Republic Services and Henry Schein Dental (Service/Install Division). She is certified in OSHA 10 and OSHA 30.
Bonnie is looking forward to being part of the safety culture at UVA. She is committed to working with every department to provide a safe work environment.
Occupational Programs Administrative Assistant
Samantha Whalen joined the Occupational Programs team in January of 2018. Prior to joining UVA, she served in a variety of administrative, quality assurance, and customer service roles. She brings a high attention to detail, organization, and accuracy to her role in the Occupational Programs team. Sam helps coordinate training programs by enrolling employees and processing training data. She also attends all Safety Committees and Focus Teams to better inform members of what transpired during the meeting. With a passion for health and wellness, Sam is eager to bring her talent to Facilities Management to support all of FM in maintaining their health and safety in the workplace. In addition to her role as an administrative assistant, Sam is also an Accredited Office Ergonomics Evaluator and has taken on the task of assisting all of FM in addressing their ergonomic needs.
Quality Assurance Inspector
Keith Woodson inspects mechanical rooms for the Medical Center as well as Central Grounds Zone for any safety related issues. Keith also inspects fire extinguishers to make sure they are in proper working condition. This helps keep attention on the proper way and locations to store items. Prior to joining the safety team, Keith spent two years as a Quality Assurance Inspector, talking to customers about overall satisfaction of work performed by Facilities Management. Before that, Keith was a drywall/plasterer for the renovation shop for 30 years and worked on nearly every building at the University during his time on Grounds. In Keith’s spare time, he enjoys photography, spending time with his two grandchildren and volunteering with coaching their sports.
