FM team supplies face coverings
The Logistics team is assisting UVA’s effort to provide face coverings to all staff
We are highlighting different Facilities Management teams and their work to serve the University throughout this challenging time.
The Facilities Management Logistics team is supporting both departmental and University-wide efforts to provide face coverings for all Academic Division staff.
In mid-April, the Logistics team first took over the purchase, storage and distribution of certain types of personal protective equipment to better serve Facilities Management staff. Since that time, the team has distributed more than 6,400 face coverings to FM employees working on Grounds.
“At the time, face coverings were very hard to come by and sourcing was a problem,” according to Programs & Informatics Program Manager June Bates. Rather than have different groups within the department compete against each other for products in limited supply — including face coverings, hand sanitizer and disinfecting products — the Logistics team utilized their existing vendor relationships and worked closely with UVA Procurement and Supplier Diversity Services to ensure an adequate supply of all needed items.
“It made sense for [the Logistics] group to handle that so groups in the field could focus on the work that needed to be done,” said Bates.
The Logistics team is now assisting with the University-wide effort to supply all UVA Academic Division staff with face coverings as they return to working on Grounds. FM’s warehouse will receive a total of 42,000 face coverings (two per employee) that will be distributed to schools and departments.
Multiple Facilities Management teams are assisting with additional efforts to support extra safety precautions on Grounds, including the installation of hand sanitizer stations in every building and extensive new signage and protection guards.
Facilities Management employees should use the Face Cover Request Form and Disinfectant Supply Request Form when requesting these items from the Logistics team.
