UVA honors its veterans during annual breakfast
The University of Virginia Military Veterans Employee Resource Group (UVA Mil Vets) hosted its annual Veterans Day breakfast on Nov. 11 to thank military veterans at UVA for their service.
The breakfast was sponsored by Associate Vice President and Chief Facilities Officer Don Sundgren and Catering Sales Manager Carole Abbot from the Virginia Catering Company.
Health System Physical Plant Associate Director Nina Green, who serves as a member of the UVA Mil Vets advisory board, welcomed the many Facilities Management employees who attended the event.
The event included presentations by veteran support groups such as Virginia Veteran and Family Support (VVFS) from the Virginia Department of Veteran Services (DVS) as well as UVA Human Resources Career Navigation.
Ben Shaw, central regional director for DVS Virginia Veteran and Family Support, noted the abundance of military veterans in the state of Virginia. According to the Secretary of Veterans and Defense Affairs, 1 in 12 Virginians is a veteran.
Other groups presenting at the breakfast included Soldiers of Hope and Living Free Together.
