Facilities Management Language Program grows to meet the needs of FM employees

The newest addition to Facilities Management's Language Program is the pilot roll out of an app to be used for interpretation: Globo. This app, used by UVA Health for families and patients, is now available to FM employees for use during work hours. (See bottom of story for additional translation and interpretation resources that can be used outside of work hours.)

Following the success of English language classes for Facilities Management employees and learning more about the diversity of languages at FM from the FM Speaks! Survey, the FM Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) program has continued to expand language resources for employees as part of the FM Language Program. In addition to English learning classes, this program now offers any FM employee the opportunity to register for language classes, the ability to request document translation and interpretation services and the latest addition of the new Globo app. The FM Occupational Programs team will be assessing the Globo app's usage and employees' feedback.

Some ways the Globo app can be used are:

  • Explaining information to a customer, supervisor or fellow employee.
  • Assisting in a one-on-one meeting with an employee.
  • Helping employees access FM resources.

The app can be downloaded from Self Service on all FM-issued cell phones and installed following these simple steps:

  • Search for 'Globo HQ' in the Self Service app.
  • Install Globo and log-in with your UVA email address.
  • Follow the prompts to log into NetBadge.
  • Choose your type of call and language from the Globo home screen and get started!

For full step-by-step instructions with screenshots, see the FM Globo App Installation Presentation.
