Facilities Management recently revised and expanded its organizational values. The values identified by FM leadership include respect, integrity, stewardship and collaboration.
In 2022, a team of FM representatives led by Occupational Programs worked together to reimagine the FM mission statement over the course of multiple workshops.
“For a mission statement to be effective, it needs to be backed up by a value system, so we continued this project in 2023 and examined FM's core values and initiatives,” Associate Vice President and Chief Facilities Officer Don Sundgren wrote in an email to all FM staff. “Over the past few months, we worked with FM leadership to examine, revise and expand our department's values, recognizing that adopting and stating core values lays the foundation and sets the tone for how our business operates. Additionally, we want to do more than profess our values. We want to practice them, so we identified specific behaviors for each value, so you know what that value may look like in action.”
The team approved the following values and example behaviors as the department's guiding principles. The values are also posted on the FM website and included in the one-page document to the right that can be printed and posted in work areas.
We serve and plan for our community today while assessing and adapting to the needs of tomorrow.
Respect - We value all members of the University community by recognizing and honoring our similarities and our differences.
Integrity - We are honest, open and fair through our behaviors, attitude and treatment of others.
Stewardship - We practice care and forethought in the management of all resources entrusted to us.
Collaboration - We are strongest as a team, working together to support the mission of the University.
