Facilities Management crews have been receiving numerous compliments and kudos from the University of Virginia community for their exceptional snow removal efforts during the past few weeks.

Hundreds of staff members worked shifts around the clock during the winter weather storms of Jan. 30-31 and Feb. 11-15, as well as during a winter storm that started Feb. 18.

Facilities Management teams are responsible for clearing all walkways, roadways and parking lots on Grounds, which includes 15.2 miles of roads, 36 miles of sidewalks and 94.8 acres of parking lots totaling 11,732 individual spots.

Following the first snowstorm of the season, UVA President James Ryan reached out to AVP/CFO Don Sundgren to share his appreciation for Facilities Management’s efforts.

“I’ve heard lots of positive comments about how quickly the team jumped to action after Saturday night’s storm, and I wanted you to know how much I appreciate the hard work that went into making it happen,” wrote UVA President James Ryan.
