UVA ID card changes

Upcoming changes to the University's ID cards and building access
Important changes to UVA's ID cards and building access will go into effect early next year.
What You Need to Know:
- All FM employees must have a physical ID card for identification. This can be:
- Your current UVA Academic ID, OR
- Your current UVA Health ID
Note: The Mobile ID Wallet alone is not enough for identification.
- Starting January 1, 2026:
- UVA Health ID cards will only work for UVA Health buildings
- To access UVA Academic buildings, you'll need either:
- The Mobile ID Wallet, or
- An encoded UVA Academic ID card that meets new security standards (schedule of opportunities below)
- Card Encoding Opportunities:
- Thursday, Nov. 13 from 7-10 a.m., Skipwith Hall, upper-level large conference room
- Full schedule: Encoding Locations & Times
- Visit the Cavalier Card Office, Monday - Friday, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
- What Should You Do?
- If you have a UVA Academic ID card:
- Keep it for identification
- To keep using it for building access, get it encoded at the Cavalier Card Office or during one of the following Encoding Locations & Times
- Or switch to the Mobile ID Wallet
- If you only have a UVA Health ID and need Academic access:
- After Jan. 1, your Health ID won't work for Academic buildings
- Activate the Mobile ID Wallet, or
- Request a physical Academic ID card through the Cavalier Card Office
- If you already use the Mobile ID Wallet and no longer have your Academic ID card:
- No action needed for access
- Request a physical Academic ID card through the Cavalier Card Office for identification
- If you don't need Academic building access:
- No changes needed
- Keep using your UVA Health ID as usual
