Employee Highlight: Michael Rose
December 4, 2024
Battalion chief and zone maintenance supervisor

Michael Rose has been with FM for 38 years and is currently a zone maintenance supervisor at UVA Health System Physical Plant. Since 1985, and throughout his time at FM, he has also served as a volunteer firefighter.
Prior to joining the Seminole Trail Volunteer Fire Department, where he is currently a Battalion Chief, Rose was a member of the Crozet Volunteer Fire Department, Western Albemarle Rescue Squad and Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad.
His team recently saved the life of a UVA School of Architecture lecturer. When Andrew Walker went into cardiac arrest, Rose's crew ultimately saved his life as the team arrived and transported him to the UVA hospital. Walker's wife performed CPR on him until the team came, highlighting the value of CPR training according to Rose.
“CPR is a valuable skill,” said Rose. “This save is a testament to that.”
Rose and his team have spent hundreds of hours training in emergency medical services, as well as fire and rescue.
“I am extremely proud of our team members, knowing that as volunteers, we do make a difference in saving people's lives,” said Rose.
Rose manages HSPP's evening, night, and weekend shift teams, which include technicians, plumbers, mechanics and electricians. He has assisted with initiatives such as replacing outdated sewer systems in the University Hospital's East Tower in 2023. Rose, along with other HSPP team members, assisted with the project by safeguarding equipment from spills, installing new access panels, mending walls, and assisting with restroom and water shutdowns.
Rose's dedication to both his work at FM and his volunteering illustrates his commitment to his community, leaving a lasting impact both in and outside of FM.
