Compliments from Customers
Otis Hackett and team: I would like to put in a word of praise for Otis Hackett. Mr. Hackett has done an absolutely amazing job of promptly coordinating and completing a job request for us, on the 7th floor of the Main Hospital, in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. In under a weeks' time, Mr. Hackett had the job planned out, supplies ordered, demolition and installation coordinated, paint and clean up complete (all while not disturbing our patients, or workflow). All while never making a move, without first assuring the timing was appropriate for us. He kept me completely informed every step of the way. We could not have asked for a faster, smoother, well-coordinated, top quality, turn around, and beautiful job. I simply could not have asked for a better job from start to finish. I truly appreciate his professional manner and skills. Otis is simply TOP NOTCH! We appreciate him and his work ethic, tremendously. —Kathryn Collier, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Critical Care
Best Wishes to FM Retirees
Kevin Beal, landscape supervisor senior in Landscape Services, retired May 21 after 16 years of service. Beal first joined UVA in 2007 as a gardener at Darden, later moving into a supervisor role and serving in his most recent position for the past six years. He is a certified arborist and was instrumental in the University earning the Tree Campus USA designation starting in 2018. Beal applied for the Arbor Day Foundation program, providing the required information about UVA's existing tree care programs. His favorite part of the job was making the Grounds look beautiful and helping employees of all skill levels to learn and grow.
Art Panzer, landscape senior worker in Landscape Services, retired May 1 after 21 years of service. Panzer first joined the University in 2002 working with the moving crew. He later transferred to Landscape where he initially served in the hospital zone area, then spent eight years with the North Grounds crew, five years with Central Grounds and most recently in the O-Hill Dining Hall area.

Frank Hill, a retiree of Facilities Management, died May 14. Hill, who retired in 2012, joined Facilities Management in 1977 as a member of the grounds crew. His dedication and exemplary skill with heavy equipment such as forklifts, backhoes and snowplows earned him a stellar reputation within the department. The University had a tree planted on Grounds in his honor on Founder's Day in 2006, a white oak near the University Cemetery on Alderman Road. He also earned an Outstanding Contributor Award from the University in 2000 and numerous other recognitions during his time at UVA. Read more in UVA Today.
