The UVA Apprenticeship Program now has a dedicated space for classroom and hands-on instruction.

The FM Lunchroom (located in the FM Shop building behind Skipwith Hall) is transitioning to serve as a classroom space for Occupational Programs. The space is being adjusted so that all vending machines will now be located in the hallway outside of the room. The room's sink and microwave will still be accessible, with a partition that will soon be installed to separate that area of the room from the rest of the space.

The renovated space will be primarily used by the Apprenticeship Program, as well as occasionally for training classes by Occupational Training and Occupational Health & Safety. Employees will continue to be able to send a request to reserve the space via Outlook, the room's name is now listed as “OP Training Room,” but room requests will prioritize Apprenticeship, OHS or Occupational Training needs. The room will remain available to reserve for meetings on some days and times. The Occupational Programs team may reach out to employees if there are any changes to an existing reservation.

This change will provide additional space for employee development and training. For breaks and lunch, staff members in this area are encouraged to use the picnic benches located around the FM Alderman Road complex and communal areas located in each team space.

Questions or concerns can be directed to the Apprenticeship Program team by emailing FM-Apprenticeship@virginia.edu.
