Facilities Management's Occupational Health & Safety and UVA's Environmental Health & Safety are partnering to bring regular fire extinguisher training to FM employees starting in August.

The teams will host the training once a month continuing through the end of 2023. This one-hour training is optional, with sign-up required via Workday. You must have your supervisor's permission to take part in this training.

FM employees generally are not required to fight fires but are trained in how to respond to fire emergencies by sounding the alarm and evacuating safely. This training is to raise awareness on how to manage small fires at home and outside of work environments. It will include information on how to extinguish small fires and when to alert the fire department.

Successful completion of the course becomes a part of the employee's safety training record, which can be requested from your supervisor at any time.

This training will be offered on the following dates from 11 a.m.-noon in Skipwith Hall, lower-level conference room 010. Sign-up is required in Workday.

  • Tuesday, Aug. 8
  • Tuesday, Sept. 12
  • Tuesday, Oct. 10
  • Tuesday, Nov. 14
  • Tuesday, Dec. 12
