Consider these alternative commuting options

With gas prices rising, we wanted to provide a reminder of all commuting options available at UVA. Need help identifying the best commuting option? Contact transportation@virginia.edu with your home address and shift start/end times for help identifying which options may work best.

UVA Parking & Transportation has a commuting options webpage that includes a breakdown of the different options, average savings by using each option and a cost calculator to help calculate the cost of your commute.

UVA commuting options

Afton Express: connects Staunton, Fishersville, and Waynesboro to UVA.

Arriving as early as 6:07 a.m. and departing as late as 6:15 p.m. Monday-Friday (four morning arrival times, four afternoon departure times)

Jaunt Connect: connects Crozet, Route 29 North, Buckingham/Scottsville and Lovingston to UVA.

Crozet: arriving as early as 6:30 a.m. and departing as late as 7:40 p.m. M-F. (three morning arrival times, five afternoon departure times)
29 North: arriving as early as 6:45 a.m. and departing as late as 6:15 p.m. M-F (three morning arrival times, three afternoon departure times)
Buckingham/Scottsville: arriving as early as 6:45 a.m. and departing as late as 5:30 p.m. M-F (two morning arrival times, two afternoon departure times)
Lovingston: arriving by 7:30 a.m. and departing by 4:50 p.m. M-F. (one morning arrival time and one afternoon departure time)

UTS and CAT: connects Charlottesville/Albemarle County neighborhoods to UVA.

Some CAT routes arrive at UVA by 7 a.m. M-F
UTS UVA Health commuter service starts at 5 a.m. M-F
UTS Silver Line (Central Grounds/Alderman Road) starts at 6 a.m. M-F

Carpools/Vanpools: start a carpool/vanpool with a coworker with a similar travel route and work schedule and you both may qualify for CavPool benefits that include discounted parking permits.

Guaranteed Ride Home: commuters that use any of these commuting options at least twice a week can sign up for the Guaranteed Ride Home program, which covers the cost of a taxi or rental car if you have to leave work early due to an emergency.
