Noted with Regret
David L. Bishop, Sr., a retiree of Facilities Management, died on Oct. 31. David worked at the University of Virginia in the maintenance department for 55 years, where he made some lifelong friends: Roger, Rodney, Frankie and Scott.
Calvin Harris, a retiree of Facilities Management, died on Oct. 22. He retired from the University of Virginia’s Facilities Management’s department, working at the Law School.
Richard Sergi, supervisory senior construction administration manager in Capital Construction & Renovations, died on Sept. 19. Richard joined the University in May 1995 and was an institution within our institution. Many of us can’t remember a time when he wasn’t a part of the team. He worked on the “new” University Hospital, the addition to Pinn Hall, the South Parking Garage, several dormitories, and most recently the Student Health and Wellness Center and the Memorial for Enslaved Laborers. His wealth of experience, cheerfully grumpy demeanor, and great passion for the “art of construction” will be greatly missed.
Richard G. Shifflett, a retiree of Facilities Management, died on Oct. 1. He worked 42 years at UVA Landscaping where he enjoyed keeping the lawn green in the summer and parking lots free of snow in the winter
