Preliminary Work
History

In recent years, the Rotunda roof has been leaking badly, threatening to damage the historic structure below which was erected in the early 19th century and must be replaced. This is the first phase of an extensive project to renovate the Rotunda, work for which will include replacement of the elevator, restoration of the column capitals on the porticos, exterior masonry repairs, and repairs and improvements to the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, sprinkler and data systems.

The first phase roof project will include a new oculus skylight as well as making repairs to the exterior brick walls, windows and ornamental sheet metal.

Future renovation phases shall include replacement of the marble column capitals at the porticos, replacement of the elevator; repairs and improvements to the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, sprinkler and data systems; accessibility improvements; and programmatic enhancements.
