The University of Virginia Facilities Management Fleet was recognized in the 100 Best Fleets in the Americas awards program.

The program recognizes peak-performing fleet operations within the public fleet industry based on multiple criteria including accountability, use of technology, collaboration and resources stewardship. UVA was ranked No. 67 in the contest, out of 38,000 eligible public fleets in North America.

“This recognition highlights our path of continuous process improvement as we work every day to refine our fleet practices within the UVA Facilities Management Fleet,” said Transportation Operations and Fleet Manager Mike Duffy. “This progress can be traced to placing additional focus on sustainable driving, appropriate fleet acquisition, and exercising stewardship of UVA assets. Recognition as one of the top 100 fleets in the Americas is both a milestone in my career and noteworthy for UVA.”

The Facilities Management Fleet has reduced its gasoline consumption and carbon emissions in recent years through the replacement of older, less efficient vehicles with electric and hybrid models as well as promoting innovative programs such as the Mindful Driving program, a new training course that combines driving safely and boosting fuel efficiency.

The department was recognized in September 2020 as one of the top 50 recipients of the national Green Fleet Awards and in April 2020 with an honorable mention in the 100 Best Fleets in the Americas awards program.
